About Mary Miller, PhD, CGC
Certified Genetic Counselor
I grew up in central Pennsylvania and graduated from Juniata College magna cum laude with a B.S. in Biology. I received a Ph.D; in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics from Harvard University, Division of Medical Sciences, and did post-doctoral research there for six years. Research was intellectually rewarding, but barely compatible with marriage and very difficult to consider with raising a family, so when my husband got a math professorship in New York City, I left the lab behind.
I taught science at a private high school between baby one and baby two, but both babies grew up. I had been very involved in their lives, our neighborhood, and volunteering on the Samaritans Suicide Prevention Hotline, but when our son was in high school he said “Get a life, Mom”. He’s a very insightful kid, so I decided to go back to graduate school and got a Master’s in Genetic Counseling at Sarah Lawrence.
I spent twelve years working as a prenatal genetic counselor at St. Vincent’s Hospital. When the hospital closed, I decided to offer my services to the nicest, busiest ObGyn practice that had referred patients to me at St. Vincent’s: Spring ObGyn. Now that I have reached a time in my life when I can do exactly as I please, nothing pleases me more than supporting a team of wonderful clinicians and providing genetic counseling services to Spring patients.
